Our Program
Overview
With once-per-week 90-minute sessions over 10 weeks of a school semester, PACSAW presents classes in foundational singing technique, acting and improvisation directly on school campuses. We introduce consistent use of tools and habits to allow students to develop and explore self-expression and creativity. This emphasis on process enables the student to make strong, appropriate and personal choices in their performances.
By rehearsing the tools and habits presented in class, students have the opportunity to gain confidence, poise, flexibility, self-awareness, use of imagination, the ability to collaborate with others creatively and the ability to be non-judgmental towards themselves and others.
Singing
Our singing technique focuses on a holistic approach involving the entire body, breathing, and postural alignment to produce sound in a healthy way for any voice type. Group warm-ups each week reinforce healthy singing technique. We typically learn 3 songs over the 10-week session. Students may sing solos or perform songs as a group to explore their singing voices and individual creative expression.
Acting
Becoming an actor involves developing imagination, truthfulness, specificity, and confidence. Through monologues and two-person scenes, students practice listening, responding, and creative expression. We focus on diction, rhythm, and delivery while encouraging truthful storytelling and imaginative exploration.
Improvisation
Improvisation games help students relax, have fun, and unwind after class. Our techniques promote spontaneity, boost confidence, and encourage authentic self-expression. Students quickly learn there are no right or wrong answers in improv, reducing pressure and transforming the desire to be clever into the ability to act naturally. This awareness is essential for both performers and everyday life.
