What We Teach
Singing
Our singing technique focuses on a holistic approach involving the entire body, breathing, and postural alignment to produce sound in a healthy way for any voice type. Group warm-ups each week reinforce healthy singing technique. Three songs are taught per 10-week session. Students may sing solos or perform songs as a group to explore their singing voices and individual creative expression.
Acting
Becoming an actor requires development in many areas: imagination, truthfulness, specificity and confidence. Monologues and scenes are provided for students to work on these skills. With short two-person scenes, we teach the art and action of listening, being and responding. In monologues, individual creative expression, diction, rhythm and delivery are encouraged to form a complete acting technique. We have fun with story-telling, using imagination and cultivating a sense of being truthful in the moment under imaginary circumstances.
Improvisation
Improvisation games and exercises help students relax, play, breathe and have fun after a day spent in the classroom. Our improvisational techniques create a sense of play that encourage spontaneity (accepting one's first idea without hesitation) and build confidence. This allows students to freely and honestly express themselves using their imaginations. Quickly, students experience that there are no right or wrong answers in learning how to improvise. The pressure to impress those around them disappears, and the common need to be original or clever is transformed into the ability to act naturally. Cultivating this awareness is vital to expressing oneself as an actor and singer and in everyday life.
